Biography

  Dennis W. Lid was born in Ohio and raised in Northern California. He is a graduate of the University of Santa Clara as  an  English  Major. Mr. Lid  served  his  country  for  over  20  years  in  the  U.S.  Army Infantry, Airborne and Special  Forces,  and  then  honorably  retired from  active  duty as a Major in 1980. Dennis continued to serve his country as  a  Department  of  Defense  Civil  Servant  for  19  years before retiring again in 1999 as a GS-12, Military Plans Specialist.

Mr.  Lid's  family  is  comprised  of his wife, Bi Yu, and his four adult children: Daniel, Amy, Charles and Debora. All reside in the Western United   States;   all   are  world  travelers.   Mr.  and  Mrs.  Lid  are comfortably retired in La Quinta, California.

Most of Mr. Lid's civil service  time was spent overseas in Japan and Europe. He and his family arrived  at  Headquarters,  United  States Army   Japan (USARJ)  on  12  August 1981,  where  he  joined   the Resource  Management  Division  for  a few years as a Management Analyst. In 1985, he  switched  to  G3  Exercise Division as a GS-11, Exercise Plans Specialist to develop a cold weather exercise  named North  Wind. Mr.  Lid  was promoted to GS-12 and transferred to G3 Exercise  Support  Division  in  1986 to continue work as an exercise planner on Yama Sakura Command Post and four other field training exercises.  Primary   emphasis   was   placed  on   developing   and maintaining the  Five Year Overseas Deployment Training Plan  and the  Five  Year  Exercise  Schedule  to  resource  all  USARJ  military exercises. Secondary emphasis was placed  on ancillary efforts  such as  the Bilateral Training Study Panel with  the  Japan  Self-Defense Forces, USARJ Exercise Briefings, and recurring reports.

In  January,  1987,  Mr.  Lid  was given an assignment, a permanent change  of  station  to  Kaiserslautern,  Germany  as  a  GS-12, Management  Analyst 
developing    concept    plans    for    the   21st  Support  Command.    He completed the assignment in one year and returned  (PCS)  to  Japan  on  2  December  1987  as a GS-12, Exercise and Military Plans Specialist in G3 Exercise Division.

Mr. Lid's final PCS before retirement was to Fort McPherson, Georgia on 3 January 1999 as a Military Plans  Specialist for  the  U.S.  Army Reserve Command, G1, Personnel Division.

Civil service retirement occurred  on 30 September 1999, after which the Lid family moved to Southern California. Mr. Lid is actually semi-retired. He  works part-time at College of the Desert, Eastern Valley Academic  Skills Center as  an Instructional Support Assistant in the writing,  reading,  language,  math   and  computer  laboratory.  His website URL is http://www.dennislid.com , and the email   address  is
